A Word from our President

Hello Friends and Family of Ijebu,

The Ijebu Alare Association, Chicago was founded 23 years ago by a group of benevolent Ijebu sons and daughters as a not-for-profit organization in Chicago. Its mission is to establish a family of Ijebu descendants living progressively, supportively, and in committed cooperation for the well-being of all in Chicagoland, while making a positive impact on the lives of those in Ijebu and the diaspora.

As we strive to achieve this noble objective, we have partnered with other organizations to leave a positive footprint in targeted communities as we focus on Health, Youth Empowerment, and Geriatric Wellness. We are in cooperation with the Nigerian Nurses Association of North America (NNANNA), the Chicago Food Depository, and the Chicago Board of Education, to conduct health programs in Ijebu; help feed the underserved in Chicago; and ensure continued learning for elementary school pupils in after-school programs.

The philanthropy of our members aids these initiatives. While visiting our website, please take some time to read about the History of Ijebu, familiarize yourself with who we are, our culture and traditions. The resources page highlights our food, our towns, our traditional rulers, our masquerades, our festivals, and many more. You can find notable places to visit within Ijebu where we, Omo Alares, call home.

There are references to tertiary institutions, hotels, and visitor centers where you can get assistance in Ijebu land. The Membership section is for members, members’ benefits, and financial matters. The News section links you with News about current affairs and events at home (Ijebu) and in the United States. As you enjoy your visit to our website, please consider donating to our cause to support the people of Ijebu at home and abroad.

Thank you for your support and interest in the Ijebu Alare Association, Chicago. We are committed to making a positive impact both in Chicago and back home in Ijebu.

Together, we can continue to strengthen our community and preserve our rich heritage.

Thank you.  Alare a gbe wa.
